An Indian-born fashion designer has been found guilty of sexually abusing a string of teenage girls and women, following a trial in Los Angeles.

Anand Jon Alexander, 34, whose clothes have reportedly been worn by celebrities including Paris Hilton, Mary J Blige and Norah Jones, was convicted of 16 sexoffences, including forcible rape and sexual battery.

Prosecutors at Los Angeles Superior Court had accused him of preying on a string of girls and women aged between 14 and 21 over a six-year period from 2002 to 2007.

Nine women testified against Alexander during the trial.

Most of the designer's victims were aspiring models lured into meetings with Alexander and forced into sex, prosecutors said.

"He humiliated, degraded and took what he wanted from them. He was a predator who took advantage of the weak people around him," Deputy District Attorney Frances Young told jurors.

"He has no criminal sexual borders. If he didn't use force, he laced their drinks."

Alexander, who will be sentenced on January 13 at Los Angeles Superior Court, is also the subject of a nine-count indictment made up of similar allegations in New York, as well as an ongoing probe in Dallas.
